Cathy Ann has lovingly and confidently passed on her many years of business and alteration expertise to a new owner. Modern Modiste is the culmination of the passion of seamstress and creative Sarah Koontz. Beginning in June 2024, Sarah is now the premier bridal alterations specialist for the Traverse City area.

What is a Modiste?
The word ‘modiste’ is a french word derived from the original ‘mode’, meaning style. It was first used in the early 19th century to describe the stylish dressmakers of England’s high society. Recently the term is making a comeback due to it’s use in the Regency Era drama, Bridgerton. Some other fun terms for dressmaker are ‘mantua-maker’ and ‘fabrician’.
